Group MD New Year Message
The year 2020 has been, without a doubt, one of the most
challenging years we have ever faced as a business as well
as human beings. Without exception, we have all been
facing personal, professional, and in some cases medical
challenges, worries and stresses that we could never have
imagined at the beginning of the year.
Whilst this year will be a year that many of us will want to
forget, as a business the Edgo team has been able to achieve much, and I am
extremely proud of how you have all risen to the challenges you have faced
and overcome the numerous obstacles put in your paths.
In true Edgo spirit, we have seen many of the problems we’ve encountered
turned into opportunities, and there are many examples of how our teams
around the business have shown flexibility and adapted to our new reality.
During the darkest hours of the global lockdowns in April, the Edgo chairman
wrote to us saying:
“During this crisis, Edgo's character is being tested as never before. No
company or country on the face of the earth was ready for such a crisis. We
want to exit the pandemic with minimal damage to the long-term future of the
company.
Every one of us has responsibilities, and we need to act in a collegiate spirit.
The pandemic has accelerated remote teamwork, and is putting pressure on
human resources, technological capabilities, and, of course, the physical and
mental health of our staff.
We are all human beings, but the way we interact during times of crisis is what
will set us apart. We are strong when we are united. Together, we will race to
our new age with courage and determination, and future generations will
remember the great work we did during this crisis to support the
disadvantaged groups of our society.”
Early in the pandemic, our IT team worked tirelessly to roll out Microsoft Teams
to better facilitate homeworking and minimize disruption to our business, and
our teams in Libya donated and delivered coveralls to hospitals in Tripoli to
help protect health workers. Across the region, Edgo actively donated to
various public and private initiatives to counter the economic, social, and
medical fallout of the pandemic on our communities.
Despite a global economic slowdown and sharp cuts in oil production, Edgo
has signed new contracts with Weatherford, GE, Sealmatic, and others. The
Camco team has maintained operations throughout the pandemic and
under warzone conditions, working with most of the oil companies in Libya and
running technical workshops for them. Our business development team has set
up Edgo Training Webinars (ETW), the online sessions bringing together existing
and potential clients and our principals. These are just a few examples of
flexibility, commitment and adaptability that we have seen in the last nine
months.
As we look forward to the New Year, I’d like to express my gratitude to all of
you for the loyalty and resilience you’ve shown. We often say Edgo’s strength
lies in its people and this year, more than any other, you have all proved that.
My best wishes to you, your family and loved ones for 2021.
