EDGO PROUD SPONSOR OF
THE INAUGURAL AMMAN
INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
Edgo was proud to be a sponsor of the Amman International Film Festival which took
place at the end of August. The first of its kind in Jordan, the festival showcased Arab
and international movies and was established by the Royal Film Commission of
Jordan.
The opening was attended by Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, the
Chairman of the Royal Film Commission and his wife,
Princess Rym Ali, President of the Amman International Film
Festival. Princess Rym opened the event by addressing the
audience on screen with a welcome note.
During the festival, films were shown at drive-in screenings
to ensure compliance with social distancing measures.
Short and feature films were screened at the festival and
included Between Heaven and Earth by renowned
Palestiniaan director Najwa Najjar and You Will Die at
Twenty by Sudanese director Amjad Abu Alala.
The festival’s drive-in film screenings took place in the
Boulevard, close to The Edgo Atrium, Edgo’s landmark
headquarters in the heart of the Abdali district of the
Jordanian capital.
Paul Davies
In this edition, we look back at one of our
longest serving team members, Paul Davies,
who started working at Edgo forty-one years
ago. Paul began his career with Edgo, helping
to recruit staff from the UK for a contract in Saudi
Arabia. Paul became a permanent employee
of Edgo three years later and a familiar face to
staff in Edgo’s entities around the world as he
travelled extensively establishing the Group’s
finance and administration departments. ‘Paul Davies with Omar Masri and Nidal Karyouti’
In the late 1980s, Paul negotiated the purchase of Reda Libya and the establishment of
Reda Malta and other related businesses. Paul was later involved when Schlumberger
bought Reda Pump and Edgo’s other Reda businesses and was instrumental in setting
up the jointly owned Reda Free Zone in Cairo. In the 1990s, Paul made the move to
Amman and set up Edgo’s headquarters in the country, working as Edgo’s general
manager until 1996.
In the early 2000s, when Edgo chairman Munib R Masri acquired 100% ownership of the
company, Paul helped restructure the company into the Edgo we know today and
continued as a non-Executive Director of the company until his retirement in 2010.
