Power and water

In the 1950s Edgo pioneered water resource development in the region by forming the Arab Development Company (ADC) to conduct hydrogeological surveys and water well drilling. Its activities since then have included site investigations, geophysical surveys, hydrogeological surveys, land reclamation and development.

Today Edgo subsidiaries continue to boost water resources in the region. Gunny International Water Works, a joint venture owned by GOS (an Edgo company) and the Great Man Made River Authority in Libya, specialises in drilling and completion of water wells and managing water facilities.

In 2007 Edgo’s continued focus on this sector led us to partner with DesalNATE of the USA - a company with proprietary technology in desalination. Currently the partnership is working on the $800 million Red Sea-Dead Sea Conveyor project.

For many years Edgo has been engaged in the power sector together with its partners and principals that range from equipment manufacturers to contractors. They include companies such as Alstom, Cegelec, Schneider Electric, STFA and Balfour Beatty. Two notable transmission line projects include the $24 million line from Jordan to Egypt and the $33 million 400kV project linking Amman to Aqaba. Edgo has also worked with a number of Independent Power Producers (IPP) in the Middle East, including AES. Edgo has pursued projects in both Palestine and Jordan and more recently in Qatar, where AES secured the Ras Laffan IPP for Qatar General Petroleum Corporation (QGPC).
